As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." |

Worship at All Saints is in the catholic tradition of the Church of England and centres on the Mass. The main parish Mass at 10.15 on a Sunday lasts about an hour and a quarter and includes hymns, a sung Mass setting, a choir anthem on some Sundays, and a sermon. Incense is used. Children have their own teaching during the first part of the
service and join us at the Peace for the rest of the Mass. Refreshments are served after the Mass, usually once a fortnight. The 8.00am Mass is said, and lasts about half an hour. |
|
On two Sundays during the year the local uniformed organisations join us at the 10.15am Solemn Mass for their Parade Service. |
|
On the last Sunday of the summer term Year 6 from Stock Primary School (our Church School) join us at the 10.15am Solemn Mass for their Leavers' Service when some of the children take part in the readings and the intercessions. We present the children with a small gift to help them remember their time at Stock School and their connection with
All Saints. |
Mass is celebrated during the week as well - like the 8am Mass on Sundays this is a shorter service lasting about half an hour. Once a month the Saturday morning Mass is a Requiem Mass (usually 1st Saturday) when we remember those whose anniversary of death falls in that particular month.
On major festivals during the week (Ascension Day, for example) there is a Mass at 10.00am and Solemn Mass at 8.00pm.
Every Sunday Evensong is sung according to the Book of Common Prayer. On special occasions this will be Solemn (incense is used) and there may also be Benediction at which a blessing is given with the consecrated host.
There are three Sundays each year which are special celebrations - our Dedication Festival (Sunday nearest midsummer's day), our Patronal Festival (All Saints) at the beginning of November and First Communion Sunday (usually the first Sunday in September) when we admit children (age 8+) to receive Holy Commnion. |
