Tree Warden
Stock School children help to improve the local environment
Members of the School Council of Stock C of E Primary School recently helped Keith Blackburn our previous treewarden, plant trees in Brookmans Road, Stock.
Keith explained that tree planting is a practical way to improve the environment. As trees grow they absorb carbon dioxide and help to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases. A mature tree produces enough oxygen to meet the requirements of ten people. Trees absorb gaseous pollution such as smoke, dust and ash which is trapped by leaves, branches and stems and then washed off by rain.
As well as making homes for wild life, trees improve the character and appearance of an area. People also have a preference for views containing trees and shrubs as they create positive feelings and reduce stress and negative emotions such as, fear, anger, and sadness.
The trees were planted in memory of a much loved local resident and gardener, Mr Lenard Bright. who has died recently.
Residents turned out to watch the trees being planted on a bitterly cold day and thanked Geoff Slide, Head Teacher, and the children for their efforts." email contact
Keith has now left the viillage and Charles Phillips has taken up the challenge. 01.08.06
